      Updated review

After almost 15 years, I'd say an update is in order.

The location is still phenomenal. You are literally steps away from an entrance to Petco Park.

The room was spacious and spotless. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was nice.

The front desk staff was very friendly.

For an evening out downtown and/or at Petco, this hotel is a very good choice.

      Very nice room. Comfortable beds.

Although hotel location was great received terrible service from Manager, Justine Burnside. Be very careful when checking in with them, they will change your room rate without any notice to you.

Check your statement before leaving. They have very unethical practices.

Booked a king suite through Booking.com with no complications, although we got a 5th floor room with no view- I admit, that was on me because I did not put in a request or pay for a nice view of the city.

Check-in was a breeze- we had an event that we did not want to be late to so we checked in at around 11PM. Front desk was friendly and understanding- they assured me that they will expect us after the event.

Valet was a smooth process- they gave us a ticket that prompts to text a number when our car is needed. I appreciate them being straight forward about telling us to expect a 15-20 minute wait, so we knew to notify them ahead of time.

Upon entering our room, it smelled clean and the sheets were fresh. They provide makeup wipes, shampoo, conditioner, soap, soft towels, but no toothbrushes. We slept like babies- no noise whatsoever and the cooling/heating system was precise.

Overall, decent room and stay especially for the price you pay. My biggest pro is its location- walking distance to all the attractions and an area with very vivid night life. 4 stars instead of 5 because of a small leak in bathroom, but they made sure we were properly accommodated.

I recommend and would probably come back!
      Thank you Eva and team!

Thought it would be nice to spend a few days by the Gaslamp District. We were on a high floor ( 19th) to appreciate the beautiful views of the city. The property is clean, as well as the rooms. The Altitude Sky lounge at the top 22 floors is awesome. The views there are much more incredible! Anyway, had a great time. There's a lot to enjoy in the area and this hotel is a perfect place to stay and relax. By the way, this is also a perfect place to stay if you are going to watch a game at Petco Park. It's just across the street!

This hotel is in a nice location in the Gaslamp area. So many things to do, eat, and see within walking distance.

Check-in: employees were nice enough, but they really did not provide details on the Concierge lounge or other things regarding the hotel. I had to ask questions and then make sure to inquire on the days of operation and hours of the Concierge lounge if you have status.

Concierge Lounge: most of the time I was at the hotel it was closed. I went on the first day and I got some water, thank goodness. Asking the front desk constantly for water got old fast. And then not having bottled water? Or containers for guests to take back to their room.

Room: decent bed with adequate linens, but the sleep quality is lacking because of the sure amount of noise you can hear. You can hear the people in the hallway being loud and obnoxious. You can hear toilets flushing. Not a place if you want to sleep. WIFI is horrible so if you need to work, stay somewhere else. While we were here, the safe got stuck and would not function. The hotel maintenance guy was super nice. He replace it.

Parking: thank goodness I did not drive, the price for parking was expensive.

Staff: In general the employees are nice. But this hotel with the skybar and other random people, the staff needs to do better at crowd control.

Tip: be mindful of some of the areas by the hotel. The back side close to PetCo field was a bit sketchy for a lady to walk alone at night. I was walking in the daytime and bums were bugging me.

(PRO TIP: At ANY hotel, check the alarm clock. Make sure the alarm is not set. We didn't and were rudely awakened at 5:30 AM. Previous occupant must've had a plane to catch. Rookie mistake on our part.)

We had a little over-nighter staycation downtown at the SD Marriott Gaslamp Quarter.

We booked online and upon arrival check-in was easy peasy. I had already checked in on the Marriott Bonvoy app, but our room wasn't ready yet. By the time we drove downtown and checked in at the desk, we were good to go. The young woman at the desk was very nice. She gave us our key cards and loaded us up with our requested extra coffee. Off to the elevator and up to our room.

We stayed in a high-floor room and the views were spectacular. Into Petco Park, the Coronado Bridge, the bay, breathtaking views.

The room was nicely appointed and clean. We did, however, find a couple of things to complain about and I will do so now.

*The TV was placed too low for comfortable viewing from the bed. Maybe wall mount? Just a thought.
*The QR code to download the TV remote control onto my phone was clunky and didn't work.
*No USB ports near the bed. We found ourselves moving nightstands to access electrical outlets so we could plug in chargers.

There was plenty not to complain about as well. Pretty much everything else.
The lobby was really nice. The sea creature artwork on the shelves were really cool.
Our room was nice. It had a lot of useable floor space.
      The bed was really comfortable.
The workspace was large and very nice. The bathroom was spotlessly clean. The shower was just a tub/shower with a curtain, but good enough and clean.
The room was quiet too. We were never disturbed by noise from neighboring rooms, nor the hallway.

The price for our overnight stay was relatively cheap when compared to other hotels. We would definitely stay again.

I've stayed in this Marriott several times over the years. It was my "go to" hotel in San Diego for almost a decade. Not any more.

Check-in: normal, fairly efficient check in. No upgrade for status.

      Room: Average room, nothing special.

      Bed: decent bed, adequate linens

Sleep quality: This is the big issue at this Marriott- NOISE. Partying guests in nearby rooms woke us up many times during our three-night stay. Hotel security is oblivious.

Internet/wifi: upgraded wifi good for remote working (tested at 77 down and 77 up).

Staff: Overall nice staff, but management needs to take action when guests are unruly and loud. On the positive side, one of the receptionists was really nice to us and took a group photo for us in the lobby.

Concierge lounge: so-so, big complaint is no bottled water in the lounge

Tips: Easy walk from this Marriott to anywhere in the Gaslamp District and PetCo field. Very convenient.

I typically stay at Marriott or Hyatt. I would NOT stay at this Marriott location again.

Arrival: Arrived around 10pm Thur for check in, process was smooth.
      Booked a king "city view".
Was placed on the 10th floor.
      Cons:
*Room view was of AC units and trash (see pics) not a city view in my opinion.
*AC did not work properly, room would not get below 74 degrees, despite thermostat being set at 50.
*TV placement was at level of bed. So if you lay in the bed you can't see the TV over your feet.
*Remote to TV worked intermittently. By day 2 it stopped working completely.
*Barn door into bathroom was SO hard to open and close, also did not have a lock.
      *Mattress basic at best.
*Room very expensive for quality provided.
Charged $379 (Thur) & 579 (Fri) taxes and fees not included.

Pros: Right next to petco park !
Concierge for bag check (2 older gentlemen) were very polite, respectful and knew how to do their job.

Check your bill as i was overcharged on a room charge. I purchased 3 drinks total during the stay and was charged $41.27 (should have been only $12.12).
Note when i used the gift shop I was NEVER asked to show ID, was only asked last name and room # (in which anyone can hear you say). An employee placed a credit to account for the invalid charges.

On Friday night when returning to room there was a line in the lobby for the elevator over 50 people long. Was told by an employee there are NO stairs to use (How is this legal and not a safety concern?).
Waited 20 minutes to get back up to room.

During check in no mention of the AC not functioning properly. When I called down they said "oh yes we have been experiencing problems with the AC".

No shuttle service on Saturday or Sunday.

      Marriott DO better!!

      "City view" 10th floor
View while sitting up in the bed (not laying down). Awful place to put a TV.

I was staying downtown for a conference at the Convention Center and this location was a 5 minute walk. It's close to all the good restaurants and bars , and even has a fun rooftop bar (highly recommend checking it out- the views are incredible!).

Although the hotel is a little outdated, the stay was comfortable enough (for a hotel) and the room was accommodating. I did have to wipe out some hair from the tub with a Lysol wipe, otherwise it was very clean. Our view was of Petco Park and the harbor, you can't beat that! The bed was comfy, but the pillows were really flat making it difficult to stay comfortable.

The noise level would be my biggest complaint. Luckily I had a room at the end of the hall because you can hear doors slamming from other rooms. I could also hear a lot of noise from the street, even though we were on the 15th floor. The drains from our room and other rooms were also weirdly loud, and our sink made a very loud noise even after it was used.

Overall, I'd recommend looking at other hotels first, especially for the price. But definitely check out the rooftop bar!!

Beautiful room with an amazing view of Petco park, watch the game from your bedroom! Staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, left me a little personalized Thank You card for being an elite member. Inclusive wine list, varied food menu. Large chunks of Tuna in the Ahi Nachos, great portion size.
